Replacement for old model, but not quite the same
I purchased this jacket as a replacement for this year having owned 3 of these in the course of the last four to five years, pairing them with the brevet tights and pro team winter base layer, they were more than adequate and had two generous zipped pockets. The new version is of lighter material meaning it is less insulating and has no pockets, forcing me to rely on the pockets in my tights. The fit of the neck is not perfect and hangs back drawing in wind. Without the pockets its rather lacking in function, and I would steer people towards the newer Gore-Tex Infinium jackets for a better fit and insulation... with importantly pockets to boot.

Too grabby
Not thrilled with this incarnation of the insulated Brevet jacket. The thin fleece lining is quite “grabby” when pulling on over a merino long sleeve jersey. I definitely prefer the version that has the synthetic fill. That being said, i did get it on sale no i can’t complain too much. A couple of pockets would be helpful.

Could be much better
It serves the intended purposes well. However, there are two areas of concern. 1. The collar is hanging out at the back of the neck. it does not fit against the back of the neck even it was zipped it up. 2. It should have an extra interior layer coverings like the vest to prevent damaging the woven material and much easier to put on.

Great warm alternative to a cape
Great jacket if you want something that folds up to carry in case your caught out . I bought this as I mistook it for 2 similar jackets which have rear pockets ( this one doesn't ) and I wanted it to wear as a top layer ( 2nd layer) with only a base layer underneath, like I do the others . My fault but doesn't deter from the fact it's a great jacket nice and warm with the thermal 'waffle' inner

A very disappointing downgrade on the original.
Big quality downgrade from the previous version, with thinner materials, no zip pockets (or any pockets of any kind), and a generally far less premium feel.

Initial Thoughts
Couldn't resist the sale price for this jacket! Haven't taken it out for a ride yet (winter fat bike season right now) but can provide some initial thoughts. Got an XL at first but felt too tight in the chest. Sized up to an XXL and still feels a little snug in the chest but everywhere else the jacket fits great. Double zipper is an essentially which I think should be more common with cycling gear. There are NO pockets which is a big reason why I deducted one star. There should be something for storage regardless. Deducted another star because there is a lack of venting. I can foresee my forearms getting hot with this jersey. Pit zips zips could help... Colour/design is nice. I plan to use this jacket for spring gravel riding for warmth and visibility. Rapha should consider a two-in-one brevet insulated jacket/gilet, with some pockets to store the zipped off arms, if needed.

Very good jacket - love the color!
As usual Rapha always fits snug around shoulders and requires adjustment to the slightly restrictive fit. Once on my ride it’s becomes less of factor. The level of wind protection and insulation was perfect for my test ride which started at 36 deg.end at 41 all wore was a merino base and the jacket. I started just slightly chilled once warmed up it was perfect. Will try other layers in addition. Overall a very good jacket!

Cracking product… just lacking pockets!
No rear pockets which takes this down to a 4* review for me… great bit of kit and it packs down well for such a warm garment. I like the addiction of the reflective pockets too, makes you feel that extra bit more safe in the - sometimes - darker winter rides. As sometimes it does heat up going uphill, the idea of the bottom zip really helps bring air flow to the body… really great concept 👌🏻 I would highly recommend getting the sizing right for this one, as the nature of the materials don’t allow for much stretch.

1. Is the new model made with Octa® Loft material from Teijin-Frontier? 2. Is it a superior material compared to the previously used POLARTEC Alpha®? 3. Specifically, in what aspects has the latest jacket improved?
Yes the new Brevet Insulated Jacket uses Teijin "Octa" insulation.
The previous Brevet Insulated Jacket, the insulation was sandwiched between two layers of wind proof fabric, which made the jacket more wind proof, but less air permeable so less breathable with little or no moisture management, with which you would get more clammy and moist when wearing.
If you were to put your bare arm in the sleeve the sleeve would feel chilly and a bit clammy and the lining would stick to your skin.
In the new version, the Brevet Insulated jacket uses just one layer of windproof fabric, which still offers good wind production but it's more air permeable which increases the breathability of the jacket. The Octa is an active insulation, which means it has excellent moisture management properties to wick away any sweat during more high tempo riding, keeping the wearer warmer for longer.
If you were to put your bare arm in the sleeve of the new version the sleeve would feel more warm and cosy on the skin.
The new version also packs down smaller and lighter, size medium weighing approximately 196grams vs previous version weighing approx 264grams.

The old jacket used polartec alpha from what I understand. Is the new one also using it? I am 1m75, 79kg. Muscular build, 105cm chest, 40cm biceps, 32 forearms, 84waist. Would a L fit me? I don’t it to be baggy at the waist.
We don’t use the alpha on our on bike insulation anymore – as we’ve moved to an upgraded insulation technology called Octa. Based on your measurements we recommend a size L.

What min-max temperature is this jacket rated for?
This jacket is designed to be a warm lightweight layer. This is ideal as it is packable and ready for use when weather changes on your rides or in between efforts when your body cools down.
This can by useful when riding downhill when temperatures are in the high single digits, to prevent a cold breeze from going through.
This is also a comfortable layer for days ranging in the single digits above 0 degrees. I would however recommend a winter type of specific jackets when temperatures drop closer to 0 or below 0 degrees.

Hi What is the difference between this jacket and the old one
This new jacket maintains almost the same performance as the old one, with the main differences being a color change for a new season and a few minor improvements.
